Helsinki: A vast majority of online banking customers use their login credentials to access other websites, sharply increasing risk of attack to their bank account, Internet security firm Trusteer said on Tuesday.

Some 73 per cent of Internet bank clients share online banking password with non-financial sites, and 47 per cent re-use both, their online banking user name and password, British firm Trusteer said, citing a sample of more than 4 million users.

“Our findings were very surprising, and reveal that consumers are not aware, or are choosing to ignore, the security implications of reusing their banking credentials on multiple websites,” said Trusteer’s Chief Technology Officer Amit Klein.

Michael Paisley, the head of information security at Santander in Britain, said banks protection shield has expanded beyond banks walls as online banking has increased.

“From the bank’s point of view it has become very important we help our customers to protect their identity online,” he said.

Trusteer’s Rapport browser security service — which recognizes when users attempt to submit online bank credentials them to other websites — is used by major North American and European banks.

New Delhi: Japanese auto major Honda will recall 8,532 units of its sedan ‘City’ in India because of a defective power window switch.

The company’s decision is part of a global recall initiative that it announced on Friday. The company’s Indian subsidiary, Honda Siel Cars India, on Saturday said it would “call back 8,532 units of second generation City, manufactured in 2007, for a preventive part replacement of power window switch.”

The replacement would be carried out free of cost and the company would communicate directly with the owners of the cars which are covered under this part replacement, it said.

The company, however, said the third generation City, which is currently being sold in India, is not affected.

Honda on Friday announced a global recall of 6.46 lakh units of City and Jazz models after reports of defective power window switches.

HSCI, the joint venture between Honda Motor Co Ltd and Siel Ltd, further said that the global recall does not impact premium hatchback Jazz sold in India.

“The recall announced by Honda applies to first generation Jazz and does not apply to second generation Honda Jazz, which has been sold in India since June 2009,” it said.

The company launched Jazz in India last year and has sold over 6,000 units so far.

The recall has been carried out after detecting potential problem of smoke coming out from the power window switch if water enters the driver window when it is left open during heavy rain or is exposed to any other liquid due to spillage.

Haiti in recent years has struggled with problems ranging from near-constant political upheaval, health crises, severe environmental degradation and an annual barrage of hurricanes.Beyond al these the earthquake held now the most devastating one..
A massive earthquake struck Haiti just before 5 p.m. on Jan. 12, about 10 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince, the country’s capital. The quake was the worst in the region in more than 200 years. Estimates of the dead now run from 50,000 to 200,000 or more.
The day after the quake, Haiti’s president, René Préval, called the destruction “unimaginable.” The quake left the country in shambles, without electricity or phone service. Governments and private groups from Beijing to Grand Rapids pledged assistance, but the extent of the destruction — and Haiti’s shaky infrastructure before the quake — meant aid efforts faced steep obstacles. With little food and water to be had, thousands of residents of the capital, Port-au-Prince, where the destruction was centered, fled the city to seek refuge with relatives in the countryside.
Despite scattered looting, the city remained relatively calm, but there was little evidence that the central government was able to function. Ban Ki-Moon, the secretary-general of the United Nations, on Jan. 18 requested that another 3,500 peacekeepers be sent to Haiti to assist in delivering aid and prevent violence. The United States ordered the deployment of 5,000 troops to assist in the relief effort. The earthquake could be felt across the border in the Dominican Republic, on the eastern part of the island of Hispaniola. High-rise buildings in the capital, Santo Domingo, shook and sent people streaming down stairways into the streets, fearing that the tremor could intensify.
Survivors squatted in the streets, some hurt and bloody, many more without food and water, close to piles of covered corpses and rubble. Limbs protruded from disintegrated concrete, muffled cries emanated from deep inside the wrecks of buildings – many of them poorly constructed in the first place. Ten days after the quake, the number of survivors pulled from the rubble stood at 121 as hopes of finding more dwindled. A large aftershock on the morning of Jan. 20, which had a magnitude of 6.1, was centered on Gressier, a village west of Port-au-Prince. The most powerful tremor to hit Haiti since the initial earthquake on Jan. 12, it caused some additional damage to the ravaged capital and surrounding areas.
Relief efforts by government:
In the days after the quake, aid was arriving only in a trickle to those thought to need assistance.Power was still out and telecommunications rarely functioned. Most medical facilities had been severely damaged, if not leveled. Supplies of food and fresh water were dwindling. Ships could not bring their cargos of supplies into Haiti’s damaged port; the airport was functioning with severe limits; roads were blocked not only by debris but also by people with no safe shelter to retreat to.
Aid agencies from around the world geared up to help. Agencies already in Haiti said they would open their storehouses of food and water there, and the World Food Program was flying in nearly 100 tons of ready-to-eat meals and high-energy biscuits from El Salvador. The United Nations said it was freeing up $10 million in emergency relief funds, the European Union pledged $4.4 million, and groups like Doctors Without Borders were setting up clinics in tents and open-air triage centers to treat the injured.
As efforts to rescue people trapped under rubble wound down, aid workers continued to shift their focus to delivering shelter, water and medical care to hundreds of thousands of injured, hungry and displaced Haitians.
How to help:
United states give hands a lot to this affected country fro white house. Also we common people can help them in various ways.Cell phone users can text “Haiti” to the number 90999 and donate $10 to the Red Cross. The amount is then added to the donor’s cellphone bill. Other organizations have set up similar systems.
Medical organizations based in Haiti before the quake are struggling to cope with its aftermath. Doctors Without Borders reports it has treated more than 1,000 people on the ground and has appealed for support. Partners in Health, a major non-governmental health care provider in Haiti, operates clinics in Port-au-Prince and is also soliciting donations.
The Times’ Lede blog has posted a list of various charity organizations that plan to provide relief.

Chinese media scorn U.S. for “politicizing” Google affair By Ben BlanchardPosted 2010/01/26 at 2:31 am EST BEIJING, Jan. 26, 2010 (Reuters) — Chinese state media stepped up their war of words with the United States over Internet control on Tuesday, with a top newspaper claiming a U.S. conspiracy and saying China can live without Google. Two weeks ago the world’s biggest search engine provider, Google Inc., threatened to shut its Chinese Google.cn portal and to pull back from China, citing problems of censorship and sophisticated hacking from within the country. The Obama administration has backed Google’s criticisms, and on Thursday Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged China to drop Internet censorship and investigate the claims of hacking, which some experts have said could have been organized by Beijing. After first fending off the criticisms from Google and Washington with tight-lipped restraint, Chinese officials and state-run media have launched a torrent of scorn that has the hallmarks of a concerted counter-campaign. The country’s top newspaper warned that the Internet row was hurting broader bilateral relations — which have also been strained by trade disputes, U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, and the possibility that President Barack Obama will meet the Dalai Lama, who Beijing calls a separatist. “These statements and actions disregard reality and harm China’s national image, upsetting the healthy and stable development of Sino-U.S. ties,” the People’s Daily, the ruling Communist Party’s chief mouthpiece, said in a commentary on the Internet dispute. “It is not difficult to see the shadow of the U.S. government behind the politicization of the Google affair.” Washington had exploited Google’s claims “in an effort to restrict China’s right to protect its national security and interests on the Internet.” Google has said it wants talks with the Chinese government about solving its complaints.

Indian hockey slumped to one of its worst crises ever when the 22 probables for World Cup stopped training at the Belawadi Sports Complex in Pune on Friday in protest against their pending financial dues and incentives.

Shrouded in Mystery: Indo-China Border Issues

Naorem Bhagat Singh
Article No:180, Written on November 07, 2009

After the 17th Chinese Communist Party Congress National Meeting 2007, China started focusing on South Asia, specifically India. Both have been favorably disposed towards multilateralism, with India joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as an observer, while China joining SAARC summit in April 2008, also as an observer. Besides, people to people diplomacy expanded with mutual tourist visits.

While largely symbolic in nature, the “Hand in Hand” (HiH) Sino-Indian combat drill launched at Kunming in China in December 2007 was a major confidence building measure between two Asian countries. The second HiH at the Belgaum, Commando School in Karnataka took place in December 2008 with the pledge that it would be a regular feature to boost ties between the world’s largest and third largest armies. But, suddenly in the third HiH, to be held at Maground (China) was cancelled.Incidentally, China’s massive build up of infrastructure along the 4057 km LAC (Line of Actual Control) has the potential of swiftly massing troops at the border for offensive operation against India.

Chinese objectives include developing strategic missile and space-based assets and of rapidly entrancing its blue-water navy to conduct operations in distance waters. It also included infrastructure, reconnaissance and surveillance, quick response and operational capabilities in the border areas. These steps will have an effect on the overall military environment in the neighborhood of India.

On the Indian side of the border, the army has been increasing and upgrading its presence in the region to place two army divisions, each comprising around 25,000 to 30,000 personnel as also squadron of frontline Sukhoi Su-30MKI, combat jets at a key airbase in North-east India. India has also been pursuing closer relations with the United States, something that worries China. China also has a large number of standing army according to official figures and defense industry estimates.

Today, Chinese power is manifested in the entire three sectors, like in western (Ladakh), middle (Uttarakhand and Himachal), and eastern (Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh) of the LAC. Chinese embassy has been issuing separate visas for Indian passport holders from Jammu and Kashmir on a separate sheet of paper and stamping them, illegally. They also have given stapled visas earlier to resident of Arunachal Pradesh, over which China claims its sovereignty. It is the large interface of border issues which will have to be settled, so that peace and tranquility on Indo-China border is maintained.

Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said in September this year that the two countries have to face off at multilateral forums, including Chinese’s objection to a 60 million dollars Asian Development Bank loan for the Watershed Management Project (WMP) in Arunachal Pradesh. As per China’s claim, the Tawang region in Arunachal Pradesh which was the birth place of the sixth Dalai Lama, has to be returned to China. In September 2009, two jawans of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), were injured in bullets fired from the Chinese side. This firing in the area indentified as Kerang in northern Sikkim took place recently but has been kept under wraps. It was confirmed by highly-placed intelligence source which was not authorized to give information to media. The ITBP officials at its headquarters in New Delhi declined to confirm the incident.

Over the last year, Beijing has protested the visits by Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil, to Arunachal Pradesh to reassert its territorial claim over the state. China accuses New Delhi of occupying some 90,000 sq km of Chinese territory most of it located in Arunachal Pradesh. But this was quickly rejected by New Delhi making it clear that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India. According to Army sources, there is PLA (People Liberation Army) build-up across the border, but what worries the Indian top brass is the definite edge the Chinese have in terms of infrastructure, particularly road communication. Because of this, they can move reinforcements to the LAC at a short notice, which is difficult for India. Asaphila, the last road on the Indian side end, is 50 km away from the LAC.

One prominent political leader from Arunachal Pradesh, former M.P. Kiren Rijiju, has been vocal against the Indian policy of not developing infrastructure. Western Arunachal Pradesh M.P. Takan Sanjay also said that due to Chinese incursions, the local people felt unsafe. People of Arunachal Pradesh do not want to face 1962 war all over again.

Thus, it shows that the present tenuous relations between India and China can create serious problems in the future. But in media and newspapers, one finds that leaders of both sides continue to have friendly bilateral relationship amongst them. In international affairs, the two sides have maintained effective cooperation and coordination within the framework of the China India-Russia Trilateral mechanism, the G-20 and other forums. Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, on his part, stated that the Indian government would give top priority to its relations with China and there is enough room for two countries to achieve development. Indian leaders should concentrate in solving vexed issues between China and India for the sake of their own citizens.
